Our first featured educator is very exceptional and talented English Teacher and Wushu Coach.  Aside from teaching online, she's also busy coaching her students at North Dragon Wushu. So setback and have a good read! 

RANDOM QUESTIONS:

1. What city were you born? Describe your childhood home and where it was.

                I was born in Natonin, Mt. Province;  my mother's hometown.  I do no recall any memories there because we moved to Baguio City one or two years after I was born.

2. Where did you grow up and what was it like there?

                I grew up in Magsaysay, Loakan, Baguio City.  It is near the airport runway so we always used to see airplanes arriving and departing.  People used to jog early in the morning on the runway and walk on it late in the afternoon or in the evenings. 

3. As a child, did you have pets? Were they special to you?

                Yes, I did.  My father loved pets so we used to have dogs and cats.  Our dogs were friendly so the neighbors weren't scared.  I used to have a special pet dog.  His name was Brownie.  I think, we grew up together but he died because of old age when I was five. 

4. What did you enjoy doing as a child? What was your favorite outdoor activity?

                I remember playing hide-and-seek with my friends when I was young.  We used to play this game in the afternoon or in the evenings.   This used to be my favorite game because I always won this game.  I could say I was good at hiding so nobody could find me.  

5. Did you attend church or religious services? What were your earliest memories?

                Yes, I did.  My father is a Pastor/Minister at the church so I and my siblings were raised with religious beliefs and practices.  In fact, at a very young age, I used to teach Sunday Schools and I really enjoyed it. 

After elementary, I joined a Korean Church (Rainbow Mission) and got involved in the Music Team.  I was the youngest music team member at the age of 12 or 13.  Despite my age, I thought and behaved like an adult and many people noticed that.  Thus, my co-music team members did not have any problems with me.

6. Describe your parents. What are they like? What do they do?

                When my father was still alive, he was a Pastor or a Minister in a Pentecostal Church.  He was a man of faith and I really appreciate that.  He was very strict to us when we were young but his upbringing was good, I think.

                My mother is now 66 or 67 years old.  She now lives in Natonin, Mt. Province; the place where I was born.  My mother decided to stay there since my father died in 2005.  My mother is really hardworking, patient and a loving mother.  She loves our father very dearly.  She does not do any particular job now because she is already old but she spends her time helping my brother in the field. 

   

7. Have you ever dreamt of teaching in abroad?

                Yes, I have.  I have dreamt of going abroad to teach English as I would like to share my knowledge to the foreign students out there.

8. What’s your worst experience as a teacher?

                Well, my worst experience as a teacher is when students do not behave in class but I always manage to get their attention so I think that's not considered worst at all.

9. Describe your grandparents.

                I'm sorry.  My grandparents on both sides were already dead when I was born so I cannot share anything about it.

11. Did your friends ever get you in trouble when you were younger?

                No, I do not recall anything about this.

12. What were some of your chores and did you get allowance?

                Being the youngest in the family, I was tasked to cook rice every time I arrived home from school in the afternoon.  I was also the one responsible in doing the dishes.

                Speaking of allowance, my parents used to give me P1.00 when I was in elementary.  At that time, P1.00 was still valuable so I could buy something out of that.  When I went to High school, my allowance was increased to P10.00.  For a high school student, that wasn't enough because my transportation fee back and forth was P7.50 so I had to work part-time on Saturdays for my allowance.

13. How old were you when you went on your first date? Where did you go?

                Well, I was already in college at that time.  We went to the restaurant and ate something.  We also went to the park.

14. What were some of your first jobs? How much did you earn?

                I started to work part-time when I was in my first year high school.  I did everything my neighbors let me do as long as I could earn money. 

In 1998, I started to work at a computer shop owned by my father's relative.  I was paid P150/day at that time.  The pay was not bad because it helped me a lot.  

In 2003, I started tutoring Koreans through referrals of my Korean church mates whom I had taught English. I was being paid P150/hour so I decided to quit working at the computer shop and concentrate on tutoring English instead.   That was the start of my English teaching career.  From private tutoring, I was introduced to a Korean academy where I was trained more.  Of course, the payment also increased as I was doing improvements.  I always used to teach part-time because I was attending college at the same time.

15. What did you like to do in your free time? What do you do now?

                I am always fascinated in martial arts so I always go to the gym whenever I have free time.  I do martial arts because this is the best way for me to relieve my stress from school, work and everyday life.

                Right now, I am a part-time Online English teacher and a part-time transcriptionist.  I'm working hard to manage and establish the martial arts club which I just recently founded.    

16. What were some of the crazy fads you or your friends went through?

                I do not recall any as I was and I am always busy working.

17. Did you admire famous persons? What made them admirable?

                The only persons I admired the most were Jacky Chan, Jet Li, Wu Jing and others because of their great Wushu skills.  In fact, they were my inspiration in practicing Wushu or the "Chinese Kung Fu."  

18. What mischievous prank did you pull on to someone?

                I don’t recall any.

19. Was there a moment that you experienced a stage fright?

                No, because I was already exposed talking, speaking or performing in front of the audience at the church when I was still young.

20. How did you meet your husband/boyfriend?and what drew you to him/her?

                I and my husband were both Wushu practitioners so we met at the gym.  I was attracted to him because of his cleanliness and because he does not smoke nor drink alcohol.

21. What are some of your fondest memories with your husband/boyfriend?

                I do not recall any.

22. What are some favorites? ( color, food, ice cream, book, movie, song, sport, etc)

                My favorite colors are black, red and blue.  My favorite sports are Wushu, MMA, and other combat sports.

23. Is there something you wish you could do over again?

                Yes, there is.  I wish to produce great athletes from my martial arts club.  

24. What things do you find yourself doing that you said you'd "never" do.

                I cannot think of any right now.

25. Where do you teach now?

                I still teach from home (home-based).

26. What changes have you tried to do at your work?
                I tried changing my methods of teaching that would fit my student's level, ability, aptitude and everything.

27. What great events as a teacher have you experienced?

                When my students really learned from me and were successful in taking the English tests they’re preparing for.  Some students of mine thanked me for teaching and helping them in passing the exams so that's the greatest for me as a teacher.

28. What is something that you are really proud of and why?

                I am really proud of the martial arts club that I recently founded because our students there are doing pretty fast improvements.  

29. Who are the people you consider as your mentors?

                My father, my mother, my older sister and my older brother.

30. When students look back to your life, how do you want to be remembered?

                I would like to be remembered not only as a mere teacher but a good friend, a good counselor and good sister to them.
